Mr. Hank's Corner 1/16/19

January

Finally, a new year and what a great 2019 we will have. Hopefully you set goals that are attainable and maybe something to help improve your life from eating differently or just cooking, sitting and eating as a family. January 24th we will start back up with more “Cooking it Up with Mr. Hank” and both Tom and I look forward to bringing Bella Mente community together for a time of learning how to make something fun to eat, get to know other families and just cook with your kids.

If you are interested here are your sign up links for January, February, and March.

January’s theme is Italian Nights

March is all about Asian Inspired Dishes https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0944afa72aa0f94 asian

Hope to see you at one of these classes.

If fitness was one of your goals you can stop over at 181 Fitness right next door to the school and speak with Andy Moog who is the owner about fitness goals. Here is his email andy@181fitness.com

Bonnie Sanchez helps to coordinate the Bella Garden Club page on Facebook and also helps to coordinate volunteer opportunities for the garden. If you are interested take a look at that page for more info. https://www.facebook.com/groups/943704965774625/?ref=bookmarks

Finally, I want to bring attention to 2 really simple things that can dramatically help keeping you from getting sick. These are sleep and washing your hands. Sounds to easy right? Well, these things are some of the biggest contributors to why kids get sick and even us adults tend to forget the importance of washing our hands and getting a good night of rest. With busy schedules, early starts in the morning, and so many other factors it is so important to get that good night of sleep, especially the children. This is a great resource for parents to look at from Alliance from a Healthier Generation. It has information for all ages and even a snooze to do checklist. Check it out here: https://www.healthiergeneration.org/campaigns/sleep-smarter-perform-better#resources?

Washing your hands are always important but so many times one of those things we just forget to do quite often. I can’t tell you how many times a day I wash my hands from being out in the garden to just working around our amazing Bella students. The flu, colds and many other bacterial and viral infections can be prevented by simply making sure that we frequently wash our hands correctly.

Here is what we can do. Please encourage your child to wash their hands, once they arrive at school and before morning circle. Additionally, you can teach your child to wash their hands when they come in from recess, from lunch and the playground. Tell them that they must wash their hands before they eat their snack, their lunch and after visiting the restroom.

Here is a Montessori instructional video on how to wash your hands:

Let’s make 2019 an amazing year at Bella Mente and let’s all strive to be “Life Learning Leopards.” Always with a green thumb!!
