“April showers bring May flowers.” Always a great quote especially for National Gardening Month or to celebrate Earth Day today April 22nd. So where do I begin with April’s newsletter? I saved writing this newsletter until Earth Day because I wanted you to take a look at the things during a time of celebration of our Mother Earth. Sunday was another form of celebration people around the world took part of and maybe this year the timing was perfect to coincide with the celebration of Earth Day. So with that said, the logo I chose a top of my newsletter says to make every day Earth Day just as many do with other things in their own lives. So, how can we make miracles in our world? Maybe the “mess” is the word in “message” we all need to recognize because boy have we truly messed up some things over time. However, this doesn’t mean that things can not be fixed and solutions can not be found it just means we need to do our part everyday.
So what can you do each and everyday? Nature’s Path Organic has a great list of 9 different things which can positively make changes and most of these are very simple and easily attainable. Here is the link:
I know change sometimes feels like a whirlwind to some but it doesn’t have to be extreme. Just eating plant based 1 day a week not only makes a big difference globally but your body would thank you as well. This is one of the many reasons why I love to make easy plant based recipes for your children. It gives them an opportunity to taste other options such as beans or quinoa done with a good serving of vegetables.
Screen Free Week is right around the corner as well and occurs between April 29-May 3rd. These next two weeks really give you every opportunity to get away from the blue screen and get outside and help make a difference. In San Diego alone there are so many ways to enjoy
this beautiful weather we are so lucky to have mostly year round. Hikes through Calaveras Hills or many of the other trails such as Elfin Forest are just a couple of ways to enjoy the outdoors. Visit the beach and enjoy the ocean or the sand between your toes watching the sun set in the evening. Maybe it is one of the many parks or museums down in Balboa Park or a restaurant in Mission Hills or a stroll through Old Town San Diego. Now if you like to get your hands dirty and be a part of a beach cleanup such as this one:

Students in Middle School will begin making reusable “Bees Wraps” made from Beeswax pellets and leftover cloth I had from I made surfboards back in the day. This will teach students to use less plastic by using this bess waxed cotton to wrap snacks and sandwiches. It can be hand washed and will last several months and is biodegradable.

Interested in summer camps? Here are the dates and sign up info for this fun in the sun with gardening and cooking. Right now the spots are going to be limited to only 12 campers per week. If the opportunity to offer more spots come up then I will in the future. So look forward to having your children here in the summer.
